How to Get Rid of Blocked Pores

For many people, one of the most annoying skin problems is blocked pores. Nearly everyone will have them at some point, and while for most people they are a temporary problem, for some they seem to get stubborn and don’t want to give up. While there isn’t a skin care cream that can magically clear all your pores, there are various steps you can take to help unblock them and keep them unblocked.

Ideally the first step in waging war against blocked pores is to go and have a professional deep cleansing facial. However this can be fairly expensive and not all of us have the money or time to have this done, so a DIY home facial is going to be the next best thing. By giving you skin a deep cleanse, you are paving the way for much clearer, cleaner skin in the future, which will be a lot easier to maintain.

Steaming your facial skin is a great way to loosen up dirt and grime that is set into your pores and making yo skin look clogged and unhealthy. Be careful when doing this as it is possible to burn yourself with steam. You can get facial steamers that are designed specifically for home facials, however if you don’t have one of these then a bowl of hot water will work just as well. Make sure you have a good amount of steam coming off the water, then place a towel over your head and let the steam get to work. You can either do this in a bowl, or over the bathroom sink, whichever is more practical. Try and steam your skin for around 3-5 minutes to let the pores open fully.

Once you have steamed your skin, you need to apply a deep cleansing mask. There are many different types available, but the best ones tend to be those that contain some form of clay, as this can draw out deep impurities from your skin. Follow the instructions on the mask carefully to ensure you get the best results. Once you have done a deep cleansing mask,  you need to give your skin a good cleanse, tone and moisturise, but make sure your moisturiser isn’t too heavy or you will just re-clog the pores you have unblocked! It is important to moisturise your skin otherwise it will over produce it’s oil natural oils and this will in turn block pores.

You need to carry out this kind of deep cleanse once a week for at least a month, or until you see a visible difference in the appearance of your blocked pores. Once you are satisfied that they have unblocked, you can more than likely get away with doing this deep cleanse once or twice a month. However, it is important that you thoroughly cleanse you skin every single day, especially if you wear make-up, as leaving your skin dirty overnight will result in more blocked pores and in some cases can lead to spot outbreaks or acne. Skin care cream can really help the appearance of your skin, but only if you give it a good base to work on.
