Pond’s Cold Cream – The Classic Skin Care Cream

  • Posted on June 4, 2010 at 2:58 pm

One skin care cream that has been around for what seems like forever is the good old cold cream. We have all heard our mothers and grandmothers swearing by it’s cleansing and moisturising abilities, and some women have used it all their lives and have amazing skin to show for it.

Recently one particular cold cream has hit the news with a bang, thanks to Kylie Minogue saying she has started using it daily on advice from her mother. Pond’s Cold Cream is based on a cleanser that was used in Grecian times nearly 2,000 years ago. A physician called Galen found that you could remove make up with a combination of beeswax, water, olive oil, rose petals and water – the rose petals were probably to make it smell a bit nicer!  Ponds Cold Cream was developed in 1905, and has been going strong ever since.

The magic of cold cream is that it can cleanse and moisturise your skin at the same time, and helps to improve the skins natural barrier, making it less susceptible to the elements. The very fact that women who have used it all their lives seem to have fantastic looking skin is a testament to the effectiveness of cold cream. While some people may find it a little heavy on their skin initially, with regular use most will find that their skin adapts, and that cold cream becomes a regular part of their skin care regime. If you do find that it feels to heavy on your skin, but love the way it removes make up and other impurities, then using a warm, damp facecloth to wipe the cream off your face will remove the majority of the cream, leaving your skin feeling light and refreshed as well as super clean and moisturised.

Having a pot of cream that does everything is excellent for those of us that are pushed for time, as skin care routines seem to be one of the first things that suffer when time is short. Being able to just use one cream to cleanse and moisturise your skin is ideal when you are in a rush, or even more so when you are about to fall into bed with your make-up still on, which we all no is a big no-no. Having a skin care cream that you can use for almost anything is the perfect shortcut to healthy, young looking skin.

Finding the right skin care cream can be difficult at the best of times, and with seemingly hundreds of new products hitting the shelves every month, it can be hard to decide what our skin really needs. Serums are one of the latest wonder products to add to our ever increasing skin care collection, but do they really work and which ones are best?

The idea behind a serum is that it gives your skin a concentrated dose of active ingredients, giving your skin a boost and helping to refine and protect your skin. Serums are composed of smaller molecules than normal moisturiser so they can penetrate your skin more easily allow them to be much more effective in a short space of time. A good serum can really give your skin a pick-me-up treatment without breaking the bank.

The thing to remember with serums is that they react differently on different peoples skin, so while you may have seen stunning results on a friends skin with a particular serum, it may not do the same for you. It is all about getting the right serum for your skin type, just as it is with skin care cream.

Organic Skin Care Cream

Organic products have become increasingly popular, with more and more people realising the benefits of using pure, natural ingredients in their skin care regime. Organic skin care ranges have grown more and more extensive, with some fantastic products now available, including some truly delicious organic skin care cream.

We all realise the importance of choosing organic food where we can, as reducing the amount of chemicals and pesticides we put into our bodies can only help to keep us healthier in the long run, and while many people pay very close attention to what they put in their bodies, they don’t pay as much attention to what they are putting on the bodies. Our skin is absorbent, and therefore whatever we rub into it is absorbed into the skin and into our bodies, which is why it makes so much more sense to use high quality, organic face creams where you can. While it used to be the case that organic toiletries were incredibly expensive, as their popularity has increased, more and more companies have realised how important it is to offer excellent products at affordable prices. It is not just skin care products that can be found in these ranges either, there are some fantastic shampoos, conditioners, deodorants and much, much more to be found.

A few great organic skin care creams to be found at the moment are:

Avalon Organics Lavender Daily Moisturiser

MSM is such a powerful ingredient, studies have shown that it can help with eczema, psoriasis, rosacea, acne and dermatitis. It is incredibly important to make sure the MSM you are using is pure, and with Raw Gaia this is guaranteed.
